ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thursday, April 4, 2019: D-DAY

Paula is looking for a few more people to go to Faulkner Island to prepare nesting areas for the returning Roseate terns,  the Thursday of vacation week. Please see her for a permission slip if you are interested.

Attention Citizens of this great nation! The right to vote is precious.  The right to vote is power.  But you can’t use that power unless you are properly registered. So if you are 18 or you will turn 18 by November 5 of this year, you may and you should register to vote.  During lunch waves today representatives from New Haven’s registrar of voters will have a table set up for you to get you registered.  It only takes a minute.  Also, for those of you of any age who would like to volunteer to assist at the polls and with voter registration you can sign up to do just that.

April is volunteer month! We have LOTS of volunteer opportunities for you- April 6 Long Warf Nature Preserve Clean up from 9:00 – 11:00, and The Diaper bank in North Haven from 9 – 2 (any time you have available). Habitat for Humanity – on going, sign up online! Want more info – see the bulletin board outside Emerson 112.

All Students: The PAC Waterfront Festival T-shirt Design Contest has begun! You have until Tuesday, April 9 to submit your designs. Will yours be the one chosen for this year’s t-shirt? Forms are available in Foote and McNeil.

The After School Program, running out of Megan’s room every Tuesday through Thursday, will have many great activities THIS week:

  • TODAY will have a health workshop with Yale students, and a math SAT prep session with Mr. Padro.

Those who attend are eligible to participate in upcoming field trips to indoor rock climbing, ropes courses, and amusement parks.

Join us on April 11th from 430-730 at Jordan’s furniture to go climbing, eat pizza and have ice cream all while supporting The Sound Schools trip to The National FFA convention!  Please pre-register for climbing by signing up in the main office and bringing your $25 fee! See you there!

Congratulations to all our participants in the COLT Poetry Contest last night! All our students performed beautifully – some in very competitive categories. A shout out to medal winners:

Marcella Corolla – SILVER MEDAL – for Italian

Leif Dykstra – SILVER MEDAL – for German.

Today The Sound School is celebrating The GLSEN National Day of Silence. Day of Silence is a student-led national event that brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Students from middle school to college take a vow of silence in an effort to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior by illustrating the silencing effect of bullying and harassment on LGBT students and those perceived to be LGBT.

Each student participating in the day of silence represents a person who was part of the LGBT community who died due to violent acts or hate crimes.

Please support and respect your classmates who have taken the oath of silence today. And remember, I belong. You belong. We belong.
