ANNOUNCEMENTS

Monday, June 3, 2019: E DAY

Community Service Opportunity! The summer program is called Lots of Fish. They have a small grant from the Quinnipiac Fund so they are in need of volunteer helpers and donated stuff. They need community service volunteers to help set up their worksite, help paint large banners of fish, help paint the outside of building (no ladders, its one story) and they can even give community service hours for doing some research and social media for our public education campaign. They are painting a couple of murals, one of an Atlantic Sturgeon (30ft fish) and the other is a mural map of the Quinnipiac River and New Haven Harbor. Both will be painted at their workshop outside walls at 12 East Grand Ave. www.LotsofFish.info. This is a perfect opportunity for students who live in the Heights, Quinnipiac Meadows, or even the Cove!

Students who have taken Vessel Opps as Juniors this year are invited to assist with several charter opportunities this summer.  We are looking for competent and serious deckhands only.  If interested, please see Bob Lizotte in 815 or drop him an email.

Any student interested in volunteering this summer at The Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen or participating in gardening activities to support their SAE program should attend an informational meeting TOMORROW from 2:30 – 3:00pm with Pebbles in Emerson 112.  Aquaculture and Agriculture students are welcome, no experience is necessary.

SENIORS: Electric Boat in Groton just got another submarine contact, increasing the number to 3 per year. They are going to need many new workers, starting with High School graduates. If you are interested in investigating this opportunity, please follow the link below to the Eastern CT Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative, which  provides no-cost training to address the hiring needs of ELECTRIC BOAT. http://www.ewib.org/pipeline?fbclid=IwAR0xPiWsJGKpzQ44toLBnEgsaTvyNtpntWB6cT5k_Gzh1GR8_1Q1d5IA184

All who love to sail or want to learn to sail and wish to earn SAE credit doing so, please listen up:
This summer we will again be offering a two week SAE summer sailing program.  Participants will learn to sail FJs.  No experience of any kind is necessary.  The program will run for two weeks at Sound School from Monday July 29 to Friday August 9.  Times will be 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. If interested or if you have questions, please see John Buell in Anderson 604 or call ext. 71604.

9th, 10th, and 11th graders — Are you interested in learning Arabic, German, Greek, Irish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, or Urdu next year at Yale? Register NOW for the WorldCLASS program that will meet once a week from October to May and earn a quarter credit. New Haven Public students usually receive a scholarship for the $500 cost, so see your World Languages teacher for more information or go to this link https://worldclass.macmillan.yale.edu/

The Sound School must be in compliance with State Health Statutes.  We need a current physical and immunization history for all 9th graders before you return to school in August, and we are very pleased at the number of students who brought their medical documents in during the last week.  We now have 42% of freshmen prequalified for sophomore year.  Keep those documents coming! Let’s get this done before school gets out in June!  If you have questions, talk to our Nurse, Rosellen, in Emerson.

This is the final week of the after school program running out of Megan’s room TOMORROW through Thursday!

  • TOMORROW will have an environmental education workshop with Cori.
  • Wednesday and Thursday will have math workshops with Mr. Padro and final exam preparation time.
