I hope you are staying well during this challenging time. I really miss our community and are hoping we can gather in person again soon. I also hope that you had a good break and that everyone is ready to get back to online learning. To those members of our community who are still reporting to work every day, performing essential services and supports for our larger community, I thank you!
It may be hard to believe, but we are already planning for the 20 – 21 school year. Over the next two weeks, we will begin scheduling for next year. This process includes class meetings on google for current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students so that they may learn what they need to do for course selections for next year. Current 9th graders who are in Algebra 1, should consider if they would like to take two math courses (geometry and Algebra 2) next year. Beyond that, current 9th graders will be scheduled for the next course in each sequence for English, World Language, History, Math, Aquaculture or Agriculture Science, and Aquaculture or Agriculture Technology. Current 10th graders will have important choices to make: which two strands of science and technology they will study in 11th grade, which will also dictate their concentration in 12th grade; English 3 or AP English Language and Composition; World Language; and, which history elective they want to pair with Civics. Current 11th graders will be having google meetings with Nilsa to do credit reviews and ensure they are on track for graduation in June 2021. Additionally, they will have choices to make in their schedules: year-long concentration in science or technology; English 4 or AP Language and Composition; World Language; math (if they have passed Algebra 2); and, electives.
Students in any grade who fail a course this school year, will need to attend summer school to recover the credit. Generally, NHPS lets students take only one credit per summer, but that MAY change this year. Sound School will also be offering summer programs if possible and some of those may be able to support credit recovery. Please remember that if a student had an Incomplete for MP3, they have until Friday, May 1 to make up the work.
At the end of April, Nilsa and I will host a google meeting for parents of 11th graders to discuss 12th grade. Please look for the google meeting link soon.
